Clarkson, Hammond and May have been teasing us recently with lots of sneak peaks across social giving us an insight into their much awaited new show on Amazon Prime, including destroying some Focus RS tyres playing with the drift button and sat around having A LOT of difficulty coming up with a name for their show. Well, today is the day that the name has finally been announced.
An early suggestion name of Gear Knobs was rejected mainly because it contained the word ‘gear’ and may upset the BBC. Today the trio have settled on calling their new Amazon Prime project “The Grand Tour“.
Why “The Grand Tour” you say? Clarkson said in a statement earlier today that the premise of the show means they will be “travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a giant tent. It’s a sort of ‘grand tour’ if you like.”
James May would have been happy with “Nigel” or “Roger” and has been left otherwise underwhelmed with the name whilst Hammond remains more upbeat as he gets stuck into the camping lifestyle and “sallying forth into a new frontier of broadcasting, and making our home”.
It’s safe to say we can’t wait to get stuck in when the show arrives on our screens this Autumn. We’re not sure on the name right now but like anything it’ll likely grow on us. Perhaps a ‘Boaty McBoatFace’ style public competition would have given us some more ‘interesting’ suggestions.
