Common Annoying Driver Habits

Common Annoying Driver Habits
Bad Driving Habits, Dangerous Driving, Driving

With more UK road users than ever before you need the patience of a saint to get from A to B without shouting every swear word under the sun as you encounter some truly terrible driving habits. We could make a list as long as our arm of every bad driving habit but we’ve condensed it down to the most common annoying driver habits.

No Indication

BMW drivers get a lot of flak for their inability to use their indicators but it’s not just the Bimmer boys that are guilty of this. It may be hard to believe but indicators are equipped in every vehicle and let other road users know when you are turning. If you don’t indicate it makes it very tough for others to react in time and prevent an accident. No indication is just as bad as…

Indicating Assuming Immediate Right of Way

Indicators should be used to make road users aware of your intended movement AHEAD of actually doing it. So many drivers now simply whack on an indicator and move immediately thinking that it gives them right of way. This can be incredibly frustrating on a motorway or dual carriageway as they cut into your lane often eating up the sensible driving distance you’ve made between you and the car ahead.

Lane Hogging

The right hand lane is not a ‘fast lane’. It is supposed to be used for passing to get around slower vehicles and then merging back in with the flow of traffic. If you have loads of people in the outside lane it isn’t serving its purpose. If you are the one permanently sat in the outside lane mover over as you will be the creating a problem for other drivers.

Slow Overtaking

There is nothing worse on a fast road than being stuck behind two plodding vehicles as one tries to overtake the other by increasing its speed by 2mph. All this does is create a rolling roadblock that holds everybody up.

Tailgating

One sure-fire way to work up the driver in front of you is to ride on their bumper. Not only is this pointless but it significantly increases the risk of an accident. Whilst it can be tempting to brake check somebody doing this it isn’t advised; just drive a little slower.

Drivers Not Thanking You When You Let Them In

This one truly makes our blood boil. Good manners cost nothing and a simple gesture of thank you for letting somebody go is easy. If you are incapable of thanking other road users you will likely get a whole different kind of gesture in return.

Not Caring For Your Car

We know better than anyone that cars have faults. After all we collect over 30,000 of them every year. Whilst it’s acceptable to stick an arm out the window if your indicator bulb has just blown there is no excuse for doing nothing about fixing oil leaks or failed lights after you’ve spotted it. Not only is driving a car like this around dangerous but you’ll also give off the impression that your car could lose control at any minute. After all, if you can’t care for your car do you care for other road users?
